Holy Crap!

So yesterday the bird was totally freaking out. She could not sit still, was manically grooming her feathers, and kept getting startled by nothing and flying around the apartment(today I get to re-hang my canopy).

It was almost like she was on cocaine or something.

I even commented to Travis(new tasty boy) last night that I was a bit paranoid that she was sensing some approaching natural disaster.

Well guess what:

Admittedly I slept through this one but...spooky.

Anyone else notice weird animal behavior yesterday?

yum yum yummy yum....

This year's animated goodness is going to Seriously. Kick. Ass. I might have to make it to the theater for the first two.

First up, this might even be more impressive then Nightmare:

This one is a ways off but looks pretty freakin tasty. They certainly didn't hold back on the voice talent:

This one isn't instantly intriguing but will probably be cute and I've got a huge mushy little girl soft spot for Pixar(still can't watch Monsters Inc without choking up at the end. Kitty!):

I'll be blogging about a couple of VERY different type animated "releases" over at my other blog later today.

Happy New Year.

I'm not really big on NY resolutions they don't tend to work well with my personal versions of self-sabotage. So in lieu of that I prefer a bit of general inspiration toward the goal of overall self-improvement.

Though most of you are probably familiar with this poem, it never hurts to be reminded...

Our Greatest Fear —Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
 God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,

we unconsciously give other people
 permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,

Our presence automatically liberates others.

Play safe tonight my friends and I look forward to being further liberated by all of you in 2009.

*I'm not big on the masculine G word but the sentiment still works for me when I stick a "des" on the end. Feel free to do a similar replacement if it helps get the point home for ya.

Didn't have any plans to go anywhere today and so very glad that I took my still sick ass on an errand run yesterday.

So things that all this snow business will not spoil for me:

Getting my dead battery replaced in my car.
Getting yummy food at Trader Joes.
Getting my christmas tree.
Picking up my auction winnings at the Stranger offices.
Finding the perfect costume pieces for the Wetspot party this Saturday.

Things this stupid snow business might still fuck up the ass without lube:

Hanging with Bitter tonight.
Getting one of my mom's xmas presents delivered by UPS tomorrow.
Going to see both Syren's and Nina's shows at the Seattle Center tomorrow night.
Making it to the Wetspot party I just got those costume pieces for.

Random snow inspired thoughts:

To laundry or not to laundry...whether it is nobler to have clean clothes...or to not break my neck on the stairs...

I really need to call my mom on the pretext of teasing her about all this evil white stuff(she's practically snow phobic) but really to make sure her stubborn pragmatic Irish streak didn't talk her into trying to get into the office today(Renton to Redmond).

I bought chains for my car last year in prep for what ended up a snow-less trip up to Hyak. I think they're in my parents' garage(Renton). Damn-it.

All grumbling aside, the view of the snow from my windows will make an excellent back drop while I'm decorating my Xmas tree today.

But can he explain zombies?

Apropos of nothing, just linked over to this article from the SLOG.

Kinda long but certainly inspiring. Its human interest + science but from Esquire so its fairly digestible.

Good quote:

"And then Mark Roth began to fail. Like, unequivocally. He was still doing experiments, he was still doing science, but it was as if he were experimenting with failure itself. He was committed to it. He didn't think there was enough of it. He was going to see where failure took him."

Check it out for a little non-lite reading whether you're a science geek of not.

Home sick for day two, but feeling notably better then yesterday. Vitamin C is my friend. Today I might actually be un-miserable enough to get some work done. So hopefully today will see my photos from Orcas edited and up on Flick, a post on my professional LJ, more returned emails, and maybe even some homework *gasp*

In the meantime I bring you the 12 Gays of Christmas...

Way too fun not to share.

I'm thinking tonight would be a good time to take care of that. And I'm pretty sure that this one will be lame to try an watch by myself.

Anyone wanna come over for a spontaneous movie night? I'm thinkin I should be done with all my laundry by 8pm.

This is mostly another political post but before I start in on that I just wanted to post a quick update on my nephew. The casts they put on for him to recover from the skin graff are off and he's doing so well that he was almost released from the hospital yesterday. The only reason he wasn't is because his mother wasn't ready to have him back(needed to clean house, change his sheets, etc). The woman has had two weeks and sure she's been at the hospital half the time, but its not like she has a job. My mother has been there half the time, does have a full time job and still manages to get stuff done. I don't have a lot of love or respect for the mother of my nephew obviously, but that is nothing new and is way too long a Jerry Springer story to get into here.

Anyhoo, thanks again to all of you for all the good energy you sent out to me, Max and my fam while all this was going on. I do credit it as a factor in his quick recovery.

So, politics, couple of suggestions:

http://digitaljournalist.org/issue0810/callie-bp.html

If you haven't already done so, follow the link to look at and read the incredibly heart warming Time's article on Obama. It made me shed a few tears, granted I'm a soft touch for such things, but my being mushy aside, its a subtly inspiring piece.

Secondly, just got this emailed to me by a friend:

"PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the right wing knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes. The poll will be reported on PBS and picked up by mainstream media. It can influence undecided voters in swing states. Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds.
1) Click on link and vote yourself. Here's the link:http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html
2) Then send this to every single Obama-Biden voter you know, and urge them to vote and PASS IT ON.

The last thing we need is PBS saying their viewers think Sarah Palin is qualified. Thank you."

I would have done it anyway but specifically because no one had polled me yet. I don't have a land line so I'd mostly missed out...at least until about 15 minutes ago when I officially got "The Call". Don't know which poll it will go to but the woman had a strong Jersey accent and was only interested in whether I was planning on voting, who I would vote for president, how sure I was on both counts and my age. If anyone else on here sees a weird number on thier caller id that looks like 000-000-0000, answer it and cast your vote.

Stolen from SLOG, who stole it from someone else. This image is not photo shopped beyond the framing and the LOL-ing. I saw the original image earlier. Apparently "it" happened at the end of the debate when McCreepy got confused and tried to leave the stage the wrong way.

I'm working on a post, with pictures, about my wonderful weekend adventures but I wanted to post this first.

http://keatingeconomics.com/

I recommend that everyone go to the website, watch the mini-documentory( It's just over 13 minutes long and downloading it is faster then trying to watch the youtube) and then email it to all of your friends and family...especially those who are still in the mccain camp.

Everyone should be able to relate to how important it is right now to have a Commander in Chief who doesn't just understand economics but can be trusted to ensure that us little people are taken care of and not be bought out by big business.

mccain = no love.

I am so damn proud of Obama for producing this. He's had my reluctant devotion as the Democratic nominee but this video was the grand gesture that won my heart. Now I believe he has the balls to get the job done.

Woohoo!

In honor of tomorrow being talk like a pirate day I suggest you prep by taking this quiz...arr...

My pirate name is:

Captain Bess Bonney

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Get your own pirate name from piratequiz.com.

Snagged from sirriamnis...

Your Debut Album

1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you'll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days" http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Here's mine:

Band name - Paroseni Power Station
First album - "Where the Car Is"
Album cover -

I'll be doing a real post about my awesome Bellingham adventure later today...but laundry and grocery store must come first.

As most of my buddies know I'm not big on watching movies in the theater. I like my home theater where I can enjoy my comfy couch, a cocktail and my remote control. Because of this preference, waiting for things to come out on DVD is one of the few areas in my life where patience is not a struggle.

That said these two movies are coming out soon and I just don't think I'm going to be able to wait.

http://hellboymovie.com/

http://www.sexandthecitymovie.com/

Here's the thing though, despite the plan that Ninja and Ace are hatching to see Sex in the City opening weekend I'm much more inclined to wait till the first couple of weeks brouhaha is over and done with. So if anyone else is interested in seeing either of these flicks, wants company, and is cool waiting till the rush is over let me know.

Hey.

Has anyone tried or heard anything, one way or another, about sugaring for hair removal? I was gonna schedule my next bikini wax over at Wax On and read something about sugaring as a less painful, more hygenic alternative.

Also appealing is that you only need to have a weeks growth to get sugared. I hate having to let myself go all furry for a couple of weeks at least to get smooth again. Yeti is not a good look for me.
